Primary Goal: Kehillat Sulam Yaakov plans to establish two frameworks of activity – the one for children and the second for the youth, aspiring to strengthen Jewish liberal concepts amongst young people in the Zichron Yaakov area on the one hand, and to strengthen the attachment of the boys and girls to the community itself, to its values and to the frameworks of the Israeli Movement for Progressive Judaism on the other hand. Both the groups will be offered a program of activities based on regular biweekly meetings and on special events for the new months and holidays, including a variety of educational, social, spiritual and experiential activities, all of them in the field of Jewish Israeli culture, with special emphasis on relation to the ages of the participants.

Project Aims

·         Creation of a set of regular scheduled activities, engendering ongoing commitment amongst the children and youth
·         Creation of a supportive enjoyable community framework for children and youth
·         Strengthening the knowledge and content of Israeli Jewish culture in the participants
·         Creation of a space for meaningful personal and group interaction with different subjects, matched to the needs of each age group
·         Creation of a framework for encouragement of an innovative liberal Jewish lifestyle
·         Strengthening the attachment to the principles of progressive Judaism and its frameworks – Camp Havaya etc

Objectives

·          Establishment of two groups: one for ages 4 – 7, the second for ages 8 – 12, with at least eight participants in each by December2008
·          Construction of a comprehensive schedule of activities: one regular meeting each week, special New Month meetings for the older group, and meetings before the Kabalat Shabat for the younger group
·          The older group will actively participate through poetry, music, presentations etc in Kabalat Shabat services and in holiday celebrations, at least five times during the year

 Program Structure

·         The program for the older group will include:

o        Weekly meeting of one and a half to two hours on a weekday
o        Special meeting on the Saturday night that before the New Month
o        Three special events in the year – trip / campfire / party with real content

·         Program of the younger group will include:

o        Weekly meeting of one and a half hours, in parallel and in combination with the Kabalat Shabat service

Youth leaders: 20,000 NIS
Materials: 3,000 NIS
